As a Statutory Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing heightened levels of risk within your designated work zone. This course is specifically designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the duties and obligations required for supervisors in the mining sector. You will gain a clear understanding of your responsibilities and learn how to apply them effectively in real-world scenarios. It also provides the WHS and risk management expertise, along with nationally recognised Units of Competency required for Statutory Supervisors in the Western Australian mining industry.

This course is designed for anyone requiring Schedule 26 training. If you’re with RTIO, this program is recognised as AQF4.

Note – Post course workplace activities are required to obtain Statement of Attainment for these two units of assessments. Three (3) months to complete the assessments to be deemed competent.

Assessment

Participants will be assessed through a combination of knowledge assessments, practical exercises, and group discussions during the course. Successful completion of post course workplace activities are also required after the training.

Further Information

With the enactment of the Work Health Safety Act (2020) and the subsequent introduction of the Work Health Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022, it is now a mandatory requirement for all Mining Operations to establish a functional Mine Safety Management System (MSMS). This system must include well-defined roles within statutory positions, with the Statutory Supervisor being one such critical role. As per the WHS (Mines) regulations (Schedule 26, clause 3(1)), Statutory Supervisors must oversee the following areas at a mine:

• Laboratory
• Processing plant
• Quarry
• Workshop
• Any other location determined necessary by the mine operator to mitigate health and safety risks associated with mining operations conducted at the mine.

This signifies that each of the aforementioned areas must have a duly qualified and proficient Statutory Supervisor present whenever work activities are in progress. There is also an examination component that Statutory Supervisors are required to pass.
